Places We Love: La Cabriere Country House, Franschhoek, (Cape, SA)

La Cabriere is a gorgeous Provencal-style Country House set in exquisite landscaped gardens, with fabulous panoramic views of the Franschhoek mountains and valley.

It’s a private, elegant and tranquil hideaway nestled amongst farms and vineyards, yet situated close to the village – a quick 6 minute walk away.

Brilliantly run by my friend Katie Bell :) La Cabriere is highly recommended as a wonderful place to relax in comfort and Get Your Glow On :)

Have a look at their website for more info, as well as info on local wineries, restaurants and activities in the area.

Trust Yourself and Power Up :)

"Obey your soul, have perfect faith in yourself. Never think of yourself with doubt or distrust, or as one who makes mistakes." ~ Wallace D.Wattles.
If you doubt yourself and your abilities you disconnect from your own power supply.

When you trust yourself, you empower yourself.
"Self-trust is the first secret of success." ~Ralph Waldo Emerson
The key to trusting yourself is self-love, self-acceptance and self-belief.

•    Love and accept everything about yourself as you are now.
"Self-approval and self-acceptance in the now are the main keys to positive changes in every area of our lives." ~ Louise Hay
Make a list of all the things you LOVE about yourself :) - a fun way to remind yourself how wonderful you are!

•    Respect and appreciate yourself.

Remind yourself of everything you’ve achieved and accomplished - what are you most proud of?

•    Believe in Yourself
“Men often become what they believe themselves to be. If I believe I cannot do something, it makes me incapable of doing it. But when I believe I can, then I acquire the ability to do it even if I didn't have it in the beginning.” ~ Mahatma Gandhi
Believe in your power to create the life you choose.

Believe that you are capable.

Believe that you can handle anything that comes your way.
“If you believe you can, you probably can. If you believe you won't, you most assuredly won't. Belief is the ignition switch that gets you off the launching pad”. ~ Denis Waitley
•    Trust Yourself

Release fear and doubt.
“By banishing doubt and trusting your intuitive feelings, you clear a space for the power of intention to flow through”.~ Dr Wayne Dyer.
Trust your intuition.

Accept responsibility for your decisions.

Trust in your abilities.
"Nothing was ever in any man that is not in you; no man ever had more spiritual or mental power than you can attain, or did greater things than you can accomplish. You can become what you want to be." ~ Wallace D. Wattles
Self-trust empowers you to choose the life that you want and to live the life that you choose :)
“As soon as you trust yourself, you will know how to live.” ~
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Get Your Imagination On :)

"Imagination is everything.  It is a preview of life's coming attractions." ~ Albert Einstein
When we were children we let our imagination run freely. We played fantasy games with fantasy friends and imagined unlimited possibilities.

As we became adults, many of us disconnected from our imagination, as the world that we live in emphasises reason and rational thinking.

But to live our most authentic and joyful lives, it is crucial that we get in touch with our imaginative self, in order to create the life that we want.
"Live more in your imagination. Give yourself the freedom to wander in unfamiliar territory in your mind and to explore new possibilities in your fantasies, excluding nothing. These imaginative meanderings will ultimately become the catalysts for living an unlimited life." - Dr. Wayne Dyer
Everything that we see around us was first imagined by someone, before it was created.
"Imagination is more important than knowledge. For while knowledge defines all we currently know and understand, imagination points to all we might yet discover and create." ~ Albert Einstein
People often tell me that they “don’t have any imagination”. Of course, that’s absolutely not true :) They have just become temporarily disconnected from it.

It’s hard to connect to your imagination when you’re stressed, agitated or distracted.
Creativity and inspiration come when your mind is relaxed.

Play, laugh, have fun and relax and you’ll connect more easily to your creative source.
"A happy brain is a balanced brain. And a laughing brain is a creative brain." ~ Anne Wilson Schaef
Meditation will help you get in touch with your imagination.
Take some time to be still, breathe and go within.

When you use your imagination to envision the life that you want, you become the creator of your reality, as opposed to a victim of your circumstances.
"The focus in the Creator Orientation is on a Vision or an Outcome. You orient your thoughts and actions toward creating what you most deeply want to see or experience in life." ~ David Emerald
Have fun creating your own 'Mind Movie' of the life that you want.
Imagine your life exactly as you would have it. Picture it in detail.
See yourself as relaxed, joyful, radiantly healthy, powerful, courageous, abundant and loving.
“When you run inspiring, imaginative pictures through the movie screen of your mind, wonderful things start to happen in your life. You must spend some time every day, even if it is just a few minutes, in the practice of creative envisioning.  See yourself as you want to be.”~ Robin Sharma
When you imagine the life that you want, you’re connecting to your soul.
Allow your soul complete freedom and don’t limit your thinking.
"The world would have you agree with its dismal dream of limitation. But the light would have you soar like the eagle of your sacred visions." ~ Alan Cohen
Don’t limit yourself to what seems possible, or realistic.
'We must not be afraid of dreaming the seemingly impossible if we want the seemingly impossible to become a reality.' - Vaclav Havel
Everyone has their own version of reality that is true for them. By using your imagination to envision what you want, you can create yours.
"One of the saddest lines in the world is, 'Oh come now - be realistic.' The best parts of this world were not fashioned by those who were realistic. They were fashioned by those who dared to look hard at their wishes and gave them horses to ride." ~ Richard Nelson Bolles
Dare to dream whatever your heart desires. Imagine that you are living your most joyful life and you’ll begin to create that reality.
"Dreams pass into the reality of action. From the actions stems the dream again; and this interdependence produces the highest form of living." ~ Anais Nin

Check In with Yourself and Focus on Your 'Right Life'

Most of us lead busy lives with many external distractions. People often say that they “don’t have time to think”.
But we’re actually thinking all the time. There’s a constant chatter going on in our heads.
The Buddhists call it ‘Monkey Mind’ – as we jump from thought to thought like monkeys swinging from tree to tree.
We have to learn to be aware of, and deliberately control our thoughts; choosing thoughts that empower and inspire us and contemplating only what we want to see in our lives.
“The most valuable skill that you could ever develop is the skill of directing your thoughts toward what you want—to be adept at quickly evaluating all situations and then quickly coming to the conclusion of what you most want—and then giving your undivided attention to that.” ~ Esther & Jerry Hicks
It’s essential to take some quiet time to check in with yourself every day.
"Hi Self, how are you feeling? What do you need? What do you want? What can I do for you?"
It’s important to listen to yourself  and to do what you need to do to take care of you.

Usually our minds start racing as soon as we wake up in the morning.
Before you get out of bed and start your day, take a minute to check in with yourself.
Think about what you're grateful for and what you’d like for the day ahead.
“If you will bring yourself to a more deliberate control of your own thought, you will bring yourself to a more deliberate control of your own life experience.”~ Esther & Jerry Hicks
Whenever you find yourself worrying and getting anxious or distressed, keep bringing your thoughts back to focus only on what you want.
If you’re saying “I don’t have time to think”, what you’re really saying is that you’re your own life is not important enough to think about.
What happens then, is that you’re constantly reacting to what is going on around you, instead of being in control and steering your life in the direction that you’d like it to go.

When you make it an habitual daily practice to focus your thoughts on the life that you want, that powerful intention will create your reality.
"Your mind will be like its habitual thoughts; for the soul becomes dyed with the colour of its thoughts. Soak it then in such trains of thoughts as, for example: Where life is possible at all, a right life is possible." ~ Marcus Aurelius
Check in with your soul daily, focus your thoughts on your 'right life' and Get Your Glow On :)

Brilliant 'How To Play Tennis' Guide and Resources

Here's a brilliant guide from The Guardian on How to Play Tennis.
Fantastic advice from top players, videos, tips and interactive demos for Beginners through to Advanced players.

(Tip: scroll down the entire length of the page - there are loads of articles, interactive guides and videos.)

Serena's serving tips have helped me play a few aces :)

There's a great article on the psychology of winning on the Tennis court - which actually applies to all situations in life - self-belief is crucial :)

Before this year's Ladies Singles Final at Wimbledon, I heard both finalists being interviewed.

Interestingly, Vera Zvonereva, who went on to become the Runner-Up, said "I'll try to win".

Before winning her 4th Wimbledon Singles title, Serena Williams said, "I want to win. So I have to go out there and win".

Self-belief, perfecting your skills, stamina, persistence and  fun  - on the court, or off - it's the winning combination :)

Don't be your 'own opposition' - Be your own Best Friend

Does the voice in your head encourage you or oppose you?

Often the things we say to ourselves – either in our head, or out loud :) - are so harsh that we’d find it unacceptable if anyone else spoke to us that way.

I used to catch myself often saying/shouting at myself, “Don’t be such a bloody idiot!”.
This would happen regularly on the tennis court when I’d fluff a shot.

Until I read somewhere that the worst thing you can do on the tennis court is to be ‘your own opposition’.

And that’s true whatever the situation.

If you find yourself saying things like “I’ll never get it right”, “I’m so useless”, “I can’t lose weight/get out of debt/start my own business”, then it’s time to start being your own Best Friend.

Your Best Friend would never tell you that you were too fat, too stupid or not good enough.
She’d encourage and support you to Get Your Glow On :)
“My relationship with myself is eternal, so I choose to be my own best friend. I choose to love and accept myself and talk to myself as I would to a beloved person in my life.” ~ Louise Hay
Be patient, kind and loving with yourself.

Acknowledge how much you’ve learnt, how far you’ve come and all the things you’ve done.

Celebrate every small achievement as a victory.

(I recently learnt to boil an egg at the age of 45 and was so excited about it, I put it up as my Facebook status! :) This might sound ridiculous, but it’s true!)

You’ll make more progress when you encourage yourself, than if you put yourself down.

Change your self-talk to empower and uplift you and Get Your Glow On :)
